WHAT’S SO IMPORTANT ABOUT LOCAL PRODUCE?

Local sustainable farming is one of the best ways for farmers to grow and sell their produce. Most produce we buy today have been grown in countries all over the world and have since traveled to end up in our carts. The produce has suffered in this transportation with lack of resources to deliver its full nutritional capabilities. By choosing local farmers, you are choosing fresher produce with higher nutritional content for a healthier lifestyle while supporting local businesses.

ORGANIC V RESPONSIBLY GROWN

While we hear a lot about organic foods, we forget about the small farms who do everything right without a large pocketbook. To be certified organic, a farm not only has to comply to all regulations, but also spend thousands of dollars for certification. Many small farms simply cannot afford to purchase this label and resort to selling responsibly grown produce following the guidelines of organic farming. These farms are often times much more local to the area providing fresher produce.

WHY DO WE WORK WITH THE SEASONS?

Working with the seasons allows us to utilize the freshest produce of the region to provide a nutrient dense dish. We as Americans have grown accustom to having strawberries all year, while in nature berry season is for three months of the year. (depending on region) We have settled on eating flavorless berries for the other 9 months instead of appreciating the sweetest berries we can for when they are in season and naturally fresh.
